Neighborhood Chili Cook Off Monday, November 14 5:30 p.m. Cleveland Elementary School Instead of our regular November meeting, the Walnut Hills Neighborhood Association will co-host the Neighborhood Chili Cook Off in partnership with Cleveland Elementary. Chilis will be $5 to enter in the cook off and should arrive at the school between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Judging will begin at 6:15 p.m. with dinner to follow. There will be prizes awarded for first, second, and third place, and a cornbread competition for bragging rights. A 50/50 raffle with benefit the Cleveland PTO. Family Cultural Dinner Cleveland Elementary School Cleveland Elementary and the Walnut Hills Neighborhood Association held a Family Cultural Dinner on Monday, May 9, at Cleveland Elementary School. We had a great turnout, and the quantity and variety of food brought to share was incredible! This event took the place of the May WHNA community meeting.
Prep & Plant at Walnut Hills Park Walnut Hills Park - Hockey Rink October is a beautiful month to work outdoors! Grab your gloves and head down to Walnut Hills Park to prep (10/9, 10/10) and plant (10/23) the hillside next to the hockey rink. Those of us who need to go light on the manual labor will be doing a litter cleanup around the park.
Chili Cook-off Our first meeting of 2020 was a chili cook-off held in collaboration with Cleveland Elementary, Linden Heights Neighborhood Association, and Twin Towers Neighborhood Association. We had about 60 attendees and raised $86 for the Cleveland PTO. Thank you to all of our incredible chili chefs!
Fireside Chat On Monday, December 9, we met at the Southeast Branch of Dayton Metro Libraryto celebrate the holiday season and all that we've accomplished as a community in 2019. Wagtown presented WHNA with certificates of achievement for the dog park and walking trail that we completed this year.
Highland Park Cleanup On Saturday, November 16, we installed receptacles for dog waste disposal and did a general cleanup of the park. Volunteers cleared 1,600 pounds of litter from the park!
Work Day at Cleveland Park On Saturday, October 19, Walnut Hills joined Linden Heights for a work day in Cleveland Park! As part of the larger Dog Park project, we be mulched the playground equipment, picked up up litter, and installed the walking trail signs.
Community Socials Every so often, the Walnut Hills Neighborhood Association hosts community socials at Walnut Hills Park. In April 2017, our neighborhood partner in the Walnut Hills Park Project, the University of Dayton Civic Scholars, put on an event for the neighborhood to celebrate the kickstart of the project. UD President Eric Spina stopped by, and friends and neighbors played games like corn hole and can-jam, listened to music, and enjoyed baked goods catered by Kennedy Union. It was a beautiful day to celebrate Walnut Hills Park!
Community Festival in Walnut Hills Park The most recent Walnut Hills' semi-annual festival in Walnut Hills Park took place in August 2017 and featured free pony rides, yard games, and craft vendors. Check out the photos of all the fun on our Facebook page!
