Walnut Hills Park is a beautiful, 7-acre community space located off of Wayne Avenue in the middle of the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Dayton, Ohio. The upper level of the park includes a shelter, basketball court, playground, splash pad, and stunning views of downtown Dayton. Recently updated volleyball and tennis courts occupy the middle of the park, and a large field and newly refurbished roller hockey rink can be found in the lower level of the park along Buchanan Avenue. To reserve the park for your next event, contact the City of Dayton Public Works at (937) 333-6463.
Years of dedication from neighbors, volunteers, students, and the City of Dayton have gone into making the park what it is today. To learn more or to volunteer, contact Matt Dunn, WHNA Acting Parks Chair at [email protected].

Did you know that improving neighborhood parks is seen to not only increase a sense of community, but also decrease crime rates? Walnut Hills Park is a cornerstone space in the larger network of parks within the city of Dayton. In a time when green space is at a premium, our 7-acre park is an asset for the entire community of Dayton that, if lost, would not be easy to get back. Many of you have participated in Walnut Hills Park cleanup days, helping us to provide a safe and clean environment where we can host events such as the Ella Smith Easter Egg Hunt, numerous community socials, and our semi-annual festival.
We all know that there is room for improvement in our beautiful park, and the area that stands out to many visitors is the overgrown tennis court. With incredible support from UD’s Dayton Civic Scholars, your executive board has been working hard to develop a plan for revitalizing Walnut Hills Park by repurposing the tennis courts to meet the community’s needs.
Through a survey conducted by the Civic Scholars, we discovered the community’s desire to add a volleyball court and additional basketball courts to our park. The proposed design for the tennis court space would incorporate a volleyball court, two basketball courts, an open space for four square and hopscotch while also retaining a portion for tennis. To accomplish this will require resurfacing the court, obtaining and installing the new equipment, and painting court boundaries.
We are pursuing public and private grants and also have contribution commitments from the Civic Scholars and the City of Dayton. But we as the Walnut Hills Neighborhood Association will need to raise approximately money to see this project realized. This is where you come in! We've launched a crowdfunding campaign through YouCaring.org to help us raise the funds needed for the project. We need your help getting the word out about this remarkable project that will do amazing things for our neighborhood!
