What We've Done
- 10 monthly neighborhood meetings
- 12 executive board meetings
- Periodic newsletter, which has now become the News You Can Use Email List.
- Actively maintains its digital media through a website, Facebook page, and regular community emails
- WHNA President attends monthly DIY meetings
- Executive officer attends the quarterly Presidents forums
- Regular Walnut Hills Park clean-ups, which typically involve maintaining the sports rink, painting over graffiti, cleaning up trash, and clearing overgrowth (on hillside, Buchanan Avenue, and around park boarders) among other maintenance
- Community socials
- Information booth at Cleveland PreK-6 School open house and family socials
What We've Done
- In partnership with Wagtown, the Linden Heights Neighborhood Association, and Dayton and Montgomery County Public Health, we converted a portion of Highland Park (at the corner of Steve Whalen Boulevard and Wyoming Street) to a dog park. We are also created the "Wagtown Trail", a one-mile path that connects Highland Park to Cleveland Park.
- We accomplished a park improvement project through community involvement, coordination with Dayton Public Works, collaboration with The University of Dayton Civic Scholars, and funding through a $5,000 mini-grant with a 50% match from the Dayton Planning Department
- Worked with Montgomery County Facilities Management on Walnut Hills Park improvements including replacing and repairing bleachers by the tennis courts, installing new lights for security, and painting the roof of the shelter and bathrooms.
- Neighborhood watch and social groups on Facebook
- Enrollment of WHNA in Kroger Plus Card Community Rewards
- Participated in Tour de Dayton 2016 by hosting an information table in Walnut Hills Park and helping to layout a route through Walnut Hills
- An Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) campaign with neighborhood information and resources went out in December 2016 reaching all 2,500 households in Walnut Hills, funding for the EDDM was achieved through a $500 community engagement grant from the Dayton Planning Department and a $500 donation to WHNA for volunteering at the Dayton Motorcycle Club's annual Devil's Staircase professional hillclimb in Waynesville, Ohio.
